About Ray Orr Builders
Beginnings in Building
Ray Orr started his building apprenticeship at 16, completing his Trade qualifications in 1970. Ray has worked on renovations on many historical homes around Wellington, learning the specialized techniques to repair and restore these Historical homes.
Ray spent his early years working on a number of significant commercial projects in Wellington and Auckland.
Moving to Auckland in his mid-20s, he worked with Civil and Civic as a young foreman building, completing such projects as Shore City, Grafton Medical School, Broadway Plaza Refit Station hotel and the Southern Cross hospital to name a few.
By the late 1970s, Ray outgrew the confines of employment and decided to go into business for himself. As Ray Orr Builders grew, Ray focused on the residential sector, the historic homes of the larger Auckland area. The following years were spent chiselling out an impressive history and reputation for producing outstanding results in new housing, large scale restorations and alterations. Never having to advertise he was passed from client to client. Projects include a Mexican Restaurant in Takapuna, New homes in Greenhithe, Huge Restorations on Early villas and bungalows in Devonport, Ponsonby and Herne bay. Then Epsom, Mt Eden and Remuera.

Taupo Today
In 2004 Ray remarried Maryan and decided to down size and move to Taupo.
Maryan had a rundown 1940s Bach at Hatepe. Ray set about totally rebuilding and repairing the Bach to a comfortable 4 bedroom home still keeping the Bach appearance. Ray has in the last 8 years been passed from Bach to Bach firstly in Hatepe then working in Taupo itself and surrounding areas.
In 2010 Ray and Maryan moved into Taupo and rebuilt and added to a rundown 1950s home. Since then, Ray Orr Builders has renovated, built and maintained residential and commercial properties around the region.
